Infrabel invests €130 million in rail infrastructure in the port of Antwerp

The Belgian infrastructure operator Infrabel has announced an investment of €130 million for the modernisation of the rail infrastructure in the port of Antwerp. This investment, which is to take place over the next ten years, aims to eliminate capacity bottlenecks, reduce transport congestion, and improve accessibility for the port's industries. The investments include the doubling and electrification of the L11 railway line, the conversion of Antwerp North station into a marshalling yard, the construction of the new, electrified West track bundle, and the adaptation of the track configuration of the North Sea Terminal. In addition, port line 221 will be doubled and level crossings removed to ensure smoother and safer rail freight transport, and the track bundle in Oorderen will be renewed with new points and made electronically operable. Furthermore, three tracks will be electrified to enable faster and more efficient handling of goods trains.
