The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has contracted a team led by engineering company HDR to complete final designs for the new 3 km Streetcar East Extension light rail transit (LRT) line. The LRT line is to run along Edgewood Avenue, north across Randolph Street, Auburn Avenue, Irwin Street connecting to the Atlanta Belt line and up to Ponce de Leon Avenue. Construction is expected to start in 2025, and the opening is planned for 2028. The project is funded by the More MARTA Atlanta programme.
