Government approves railway programme for 2023-2030

On 16th August 2023, the Polish Cabinet of Ministers approved the National Railway Programme for the period from 2023 to 2030, which includes funding for several major ongoing and planned projects, improvements to several strategic main lines and the construction of new regional railway lines. The €38 billion (PLN 170 billion) programme will be fully financed by the European Union (EU) and structural funds, split between the 2014-20 EU budget period at €17.6 billion, the 2021-27 budget at €17.9 billion and the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) at €2.5 billion. Under the programme, projects such as the modernisation of the Gdynia – Slupsk and Katowice – Zebrzydowice lines and the electrification of the Bialystok – Elk – Trakiszki line are already underway. In addition, improvements to national corridors such as the modernisation of the Skierniewice – Luków main line south of Warsaw and the electrification of the Bydgoszcz – Koscierzyna – Gdynia line are planned. Another focus of the programme is the modernisation of suburban and long-distance lines in Warsaw.
