Government and JICA agree on master plan for Manila rail network

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Philippines government have signed a technical cooperation agreement to develop a railway infrastructure master plan for the Greater Capital Region (GCR) of Manila for the next 30 years. The master plan is to be realised by 2055 and aims to develop the railway network in line with requirements such as growing passenger volumes and climate change. In 2014, a plan for Mega Manila, consisting of the National Capital Region (NCR) and four surrounding provinces, had already been developed in collaboration with JICA and projects such as North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) or Metro Manila Subway.
