General refurbishment of high-performance network to start in 2024

The general refurbishment of the German high-performance rail network will begin in the second half of 2024 and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2030. This is according to the German federal government's response to a question from the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. The refurbishment will begin with the Frankfurt/Main – Mannheim line and end with the Mannheim – Karlsruhe line. The German network operator DB Netz is planning to improve the capacity of heavily used sections of the line. Measures will include overtaking tracks, block optimisation and transfer points. The exact details for the individual line sections are still being worked out.
