Full automation of Paris metro line 4 completed

After ten years of construction, line 4 of the Paris metro network is now fully automated and was officially inaugurated on 19th January 2024. The automation of the line, which started operation on 17th December 2023, was realised without any major transport disruptions and was fully financed by the regional public transport authority Ile-de-France Mobilités (IdFM) at a cost of around €480 million. The automation of line 4 was realised by the Paris transport company RATP. The modernisation of line 4 also included the installation of more than 5 km of platform screen doors at the 29 stations on the extended line. The automation of line 4 is part of a gradual automation of IdFM's network. Lines 7 and 8 have also been selected for automation.
