FRA subsidises railway network with €2.23 billion in NOFO funds

The US Department of Transportation's (USDOT) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will provide over €2.23 billion (US$2.4 billion) from a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to improve the US rail freight transport and long-distance passenger rail transport networks. The funds for financial years 2023 and 2024 will be made available via the US government's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and financed via the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) programme. In 2023, the FRA selected 70 projects in 35 states for funding through the CRISI programme. The projects included improvements to bridges, tracks, and level crossings, as well as investments in the restoration and expansion of long-distance corridors.
