FRA promotes development of passenger rail between states

The US Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded a total of €828,000 (US$900,000) to three organisations for the development of interstate passenger rail services (IPS). The grants were made under the Interstate Rail Compacts (IRC) grant programme to improve passenger rail in large parts of the Midwest, South and Southeast US. This affects many states and communities that have either never had passenger rail or where it has been discontinued for years. The Southern Rail Commission (SRC) in Louisiana received €368,000 for the SRC Rail-Ready project, the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission (MIPRC) received €276,000 for the MIPRC Expansion project, and North Carolina received €184,000 for the VA-NC Compact Administration & Southeast Rail Network Analysis project.
