First passenger train travels through Koralm Tunnel

On 12th June 2023, a passenger train travelled through the 33 km Koralm Tunnel for the first time, after 15 years of construction. The train operated as a special run and at reduced speed, but from the end of 2025, passengers will be able to travel through the tunnel at speeds of up to 250 km/h. At the end of 2023, the entire Carinthian section between Klagenfurt and St. Paul im Lavanttal will be in operation. The Koralm railway line between Graz and Klagenfurt is part of the new southern corridor. After completion, the fastest possible connection between the provincial capitals will be shortened to 45 minutes. The shell of the tunnel was completed at the end of May 2023.
