On 13th July 2023, the Austrian Federal Council approved by a majority the GKB Infrastructure Transfer Act, a federal law regulating the transfer to ÖBB-Infrastruktur of the partial operation of the infrastructure on the Graz-Köflacher Bahn (GKB) line. This step is intended to enable infrastructure upgrades, especially the electrification of the network, under more favourable conditions, and to bring considerable savings for the federal government. The transport company GKB itself is to continue to exist in the form of a sales company.
