The Norwegian Railways Directorate (Jernbanedirektoratet) and the Swedish Transport Agency (Trafikverket) have prepared a feasibility study for upgrading the Oslo – Gothenburg line. The study, commissioned by the respective ministries of transport, outlines four upgrading strategies and emphasises the importance of synchronised planning. The implementation of the strategy for passenger transport and rail freight transport is assessed as socio-economically viable. All measures are based on existing infrastructure and expected transport development. Increased cooperation between Norway and Sweden is recommended.
