€3 billion for modernisation of the Anglia railway line

The British infrastructure operator Network Rail has announced funding of €3 billion (GB£3 billion) for the improvement of the Anglia railway line in the Eastern Region, which is to be implemented as part of the five-year strategic business plan for the Control Period 7 (CP7). The improvements include the modernisation of London Liverpool Street station, which is currently the busiest station in the UK. Two new stations in Cambridge South and Beaulieu Park in Chelmsford are to be opened by 2025. In addition, signalling is being renewed in the Cambridgeshire area, around 720 level crossings in Greater Anglia are being modernised, and points are being renewed.
