The European Union (EU) has allocated €64 million (PLN 290 million) from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding programme for the construction of a new 140 km high-speed rail (HSR) line between Warsaw and Lodz via the new international airport. The line is part of the CPK project to build an HSR network. The funding supports the preparation of complete project documentation. Advanced design work for the Warsaw – CPK – Lodz HSR line is already underway. A consortium of Metroprojekt and Sud Architekt Polska has been preparing documentation for the Warsaw – CPK section since November 2022, while Egis and Jaf-Geotechnika have been contracted to design the CPK – Lodz section. The planning is to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2024. Funding has been secured through the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (Cinea) under the second call for the second iteration of the CEF. This is the first agreement between Cinea and CPK under the 2021-2027 programme.
