The European Union (EU) has allocated €411 million through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the construction of the Nonduermas – Vera and Los Arejos – El Puche sections of the Murcia – Almería high-speed rail (HSR) line. The line, which will be built in standard gauge, will have a length of almost 149 km. It will be electrified and equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2. Passenger trains will be able to travel at speeds of 250 km/h, and the line will be able to accommodate 750 m freight trains.
