Electrification of Zaragoza – Teruel – Sagunt line progresses

The Spanish rail infrastructure manager Adif has started installing catenary poles as part of the electrification of the Zaragoza – Teruel – Sagunt line. On the Zaragoza – Teruel section, foundations are being built, and pylons as well as 190 km of contact wire are being installed. In connection with the line electrification, Adif also tendered the construction of the traction substations in Cariñena and Villafranca for around €38.4 million. The 311 km Zaragoza – Teruel – Sagunt line links the Mediterranean Sea and the Bay of Biscay, the port areas of Valencia and Bilbao, and the logistics hubs of Platea (Teruel), Zaragoza-Plaza, and Júndiz (Vitoria). Adif is investing a total of €450 million in adapting the line's parameters to national and international high-performance standards, especially for rail freight, as part of an infrastructure master plan for the line, and is anticipating European support from the NextGenerationEU stimulus programme.
