EIB Global, a branch of the European Investment Bank (EIB), is providing a further €38 million for the modernisation of the 148 km Route 10 railway line in Kosovo. Work on the first 66 km section from the border with North Macedonia to Fushë Kosovë started in August 2019 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The second phase started in the fourth quarter of 2022 and includes the upgrading of a 34 km section from Fushë Kosovë to Mitrovicë. The works will continue until 2026. The third phase of the project is currently being planned. As part of the project, outdated rails, switches and sleepers will be replaced with new ones and constructions such as tunnels and bridges will be renovated.
