Declaration signed with Czech Republic for Veselí nad Luznicí – Gmünd – Vienna line

The Czech Ministry of Transport and the Austrian Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology have signed a joint declaration for the modernisation and expansion of the Veselí nad Luznicí – Gmünd – Vienna cross-border railway line. The agreement provides for the expansion of the line across borders from Vienna via Gmünd to Prague and Plzen. Upon completion of the project, the two countries intend to further increase the number of direct services in the future, and it is expected that two more round trips a day will be introduced from 2024. On both sides of the border, increases in line speeds, double-tracking and the modernisation of safety technology are planned. In the Czech Republic there is currently also a non-electrified section of the line that is being electrified. The authorities intend to complete the electrification and modernisation of the line in 2028.
