DB plans general refurbishment of Right Rhine corridor in 2026

German state railway DB is planning to carry out the modernisation of the Right Rhine corridor between Wiesbaden and Unkel between 10th July and 11th December 2026. Works on the Frankfurt – Mannheim section is scheduled to begin in mid-July 2026. Work is planned on tracks and switches, upgrading the signalling technology with electronic interlocking systems and the European Train Control System (ETCS). In addition, modernisation of up to 32 stations is planned, which is scheduled to be completed by the Federal Horticultural Show in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley in 2029. DB is modernising 67 track-km, 111 switches and installing 3,500 ETCS balises. A total of 40 sections are to be completely modernised by 2030.
