DART cancels LRT project in Dallas

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) announced on 15th August 2023 that a light rail transit (LRT) project in downtown Dallas known as D-2 has been removed from the agency's 20-year financial plan. Originally, D-2 was to function as a second LRT line through downtown Dallas to relieve congestion on the existing single track. After years of arguments about the disruption a new line might cause, the city of Dallas insisted that it be an underground line. In March 2021, the Dallas City Council unanimously supported the plan, which had by then reached a cost of €1.6 billion (US$ 1.7 billion), and the authority prepared a scenario of what several planned stations and the tunnel might look like. According to the report, the design was 30% complete.
