Council of Ministers funds network maintenance up to 2028

On 7th November 2023, the Polish Council of Ministers approved a multi-year programme with a total budget of €11 billion (PLN 49 billion) presented by the Ministry of Infrastructure to support railway infrastructure operators up to 2028. This programme is a continuation of an existing five-year programme that ran until 2023. The programme includes updated financial data of the operators and a projection of the costs of maintaining and repairing the railway infrastructure up to 2035. A significant change compared to the current programme is the introduction of standardised indicators for infrastructure, costs, speed, punctuality, and safety. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the programme will serve to clear the backlog of repair, maintenance, and overhaul work, and to secure the long-term effects of modernising railway lines.
