Construction work started on Moscow – St Petersburg HSR line

In Russia, construction has begun on the first high-speed rail (HSR) line between Moscow and St Petersburg. The opening is planned for 2028. The cost and total length of the VSM-1 project have not yet been announced. The new line will include 16 railway stations, four of these in Moscow. In the Moscow area, the project includes the construction of additional tracks between Leningradsky and Alabushevo stations, the construction of six bridges and five railway overpasses, the reconstruction of three road overpasses and four existing railway stations. At the same time, a high-speed train (HST) is being developed that will reach speeds of up to 400 km/h to be used on the new line. The new HSR line is expected to almost halve the current journey time between Moscow and St Petersburg to just over two hours.
