Construction to resume on Baltimore Red LRT line

The project for a new Light Rail Transit (LRT) line, the Red Line to Baltimore, which was cancelled in 2015, will be resumed. The project includes about 23 km of track with 20 stations that will run from Woodlawn in Baltimore County to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. In 2022, a feasibility study was completed as part of the Central Maryland Regional Transit Plan, and this, together with the findings from the original project, forms the basis for the resumption. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will apply for inclusion in the federal Capital Investment Grant programme in 2024 and will also launch the Eastern Baltimore County Access Study for an extension of the LRT line into eastern Baltimore County.
