On 18th September 2023, Tampereen Raitiotie Oy selected the contractors for the design and possible construction of the Pirkkala – Linnainmaa Light Rail Transit (LRT) system. The winners of the tender process are NRC Group Finland Oy and YIT Suomi Oy as contractors and AFRY Finland Oy and Sweco Finland Oy as designers. The consortium's design work will start in early October 2023, and in October 2024 the local councils will be able to decide on the scope of the construction and the possible phased implementation. The implementation plan will cover Linnainmaa to Pirkkala Suupa, and three implementation options will be produced for decision-making in Pirkkala.
