Cedro Participacões plans 32.4 km railway line for ore areas

Brazilian mining, agribusiness, and real estate group Cedro Participacões has submitted plans to the national land transport authority ANTT to build a 32.4 km rail line section for mineral transport in Minas Gerais. The proposed line is to be called Ramal Serra Azul and will connect Itaùna with Igarapé, southwest of Belo Horizonte. The line is to be integrated into the network operated by logistics company MRS Logística, which provides access to the port of Santos in the state of São Paulo as well as to other ports. The line is expected to cost €337 million (BRL 1.8 billion). It would be designed to transport 25 million t of ore per year and reduce the number of trucks on local roads, currently estimated at 2,500 per day.
