The Irish Cabinet has approved the inclusion of two railway lines in the west and east of Ireland in the trans-European transport network TEN-T. This could make the lines eligible for European Union funding in the future. The proposed lines from Claremorris to Athenry and from Waterford to Rosslare are included in the draft strategic review of the entire Irish railway network (AISRR). At the same time, it was recommended that the restoration of the western Claremorris – Athenry railway corridor start by 2030. The project is expected to cost €400 to 600 million.
