British Steel supplies rails for HSR line

British Steel has been awarded a contract to supply 9,500 t of rails for the Green Line high-speed rail (HSR) project in Egypt. The rails from the Scunthorpe plant will be used for an HSR line linking Mersa Matruh on the Mediterranean coast with Alexandria, the New Administrative Capital, and the port of Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea. The 660 km mixed-use, 25 kV 50 Hz AC electrified line is being built by a joint venture between Orascom Construction and The Arab Contractors on behalf of the National Tunnel Authority (NTA). The rails of the type 60E1 and quality class R260 with a length of 18 m will be transported to the port of Alexandria in two deliveries during the months of April 2024 and June 2024.
