The National Fiscal Policy Council in Brazil approved a proposal on 9th August 2023 to exempt rail investment projects from the Goods, Transportation, and Communication Services (ICMS) tax. The Ministry of Transport expects this decision to stimulate demand for rail vehicles and infrastructure projects by reducing costs by up to 15%. The ICMS exemption is also expected to boost private fundraising for railways.
