The Spanish government has nominated Raül Blanco Díaz as the new head of Spanish state railway Renfe. An economist by training and most recently director general of the Escuela de Organización Industrial (EOI) business school foundation, Blanco Díaz served as secretary general for industry and small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism from June 2018 to December 2022. Blanco Díaz succeeds Isaías Táboas as head of Renfe, who resigned because of an affair involving incorrectly-sized electric multiple units (EMU) for the northern Spanish metre-gauge network.
