Bane Nor invests €705 million in modernisation

The Norwegian infrastructure operator Bane Nor will invest a total of €705 million (NOK 8 billion) in the maintenance and modernisation of the rail network in 2024. Bane Nor has already signed contracts for the modernisation of Bergensbanen. On 14th February 2023, construction began on a new overhead line system between Honefoss and Haugastol, which is due to be completed by 2027 and involves an investment of €167 million. The work on the 180 km line through Hallingdal will be split into two contracts, with NRC Norge and Nettpartner responsible for the Honefoss – Nesbyen section and Baneservice AS for the Nesbyen – Haugastol section. The modernisation will not only increase the reliability of the power supply but will also make it possible to run heavier goods trains. In addition to Bergensbanen, other regions will also benefit from the investments, including Dovrebanen, Nordlandsbanen, Rorosbanen, Kongsvinger- and Solorbanen, as well as the greater Oslo area. Overall, the measures are intended to improve punctuality and strengthen the infrastructure, including the renewal of sleepers, rails and points, the renovation of track areas, and the maintenance of signalling systems.
