Infrastructure manager Australian Rail Track Corp (ARTC) has formed a special subsidiary to take over responsibility for the 1,700 km Inland Rail freight corridor between Melbourne and Brisbane. This follows a review of the project released in April 2023. The restructuring was announced on 7th July 2023 by the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government. She explained that the move would separate Inland Rail's management and execution from ARTC's day-to-day operations. The new subsidiary, Inland Rail Pty Ltd, will be managed by a six-member board appointed by ARTC. The government is currently focused on completing the southern sections of the Inland Rail corridor between Beveridge in Victoria and Parkes in New South Wales by 2027.
