ANTT approves 5 new lines worth a total of EUR 3.3 billion

On 25th October 2022, the Brazilian National Agency for Terrestrial Transport (ANTT) approved the signing of five new contracts for the construction of private railway lines with a total investment of EUR 3.3 billion (BRL 16.7 billion). Of these, two will be built by Rumo, which will invest a total of EUR 2.2 billion in the projects. Two projects concern VLI, which intends to invest EUR 922 million in the lines. The fifth is a railway planned by Petrocity, with an investment of EUR 145 million. The projects will add up to more than 1,000 km of railway lines. Rumo’s lines include one between Santa Rita do Trivelato and Sinop, at 250 km and an estimated investment of around EUR 744 million, and the other between Primavera do Leste and Ribeirão Cascalheira, at 500 km and an estimated investment of EUR 1.47 billion. The former is scheduled to start operating in 2041, and the latter in 2039. VLI is planning to build a line between São Desidério and Riachão das Neves, at 140 km and EUR 579 million in investments, which will start operating in early 2030. The second line is to run 83 km between Correntina and Arrojolândia, with EUR 343 million in investments and operations expected to start also in 2030. Petrocity is planning to build a 68 km line between Corumbá de Goiás and Anápolis, with operations expected to start in July 2028.
