Amtrak applies for grants for Northeast Corridor and long-distance transport

Amtrak has submitted applications for nearly €6.8 billion (US$7.3 billion) in Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) funding for 14 proposed Northeast Corridor projects to modernise critical infrastructure, improve stations, and expand Amtrak service. The requested funding would provide the resources necessary to begin construction on several major backlog projects. Amtrak and its partners have been working to advance these projects through the design and engineering phases to prepare for the start of major construction. In addition, Amtrak has submitted applications for approximately €666 million in FRA funding for 16 proposed projects around the US that would improve the reliability of long-distance services, reduce travel times and expand service.
