Agreement for Bilbao Abando HSR station

The Spanish Ministry of Transport (Mitma) has announced an agreement between high-speed rail (HSR) infrastructure manager Adif AV and the Basque Country for a station in Bilbao Abando, after the Council of Ministers approved the project. The Basque Country region will be entrusted with the design and construction of access to Bilbao Abando as part of the Vitoria-Gasteiz – Bilbao – San Sebastián HSR line for a total of €226.5 million. Adif AV will develop the project and realise the work on the tracks, electrification, safety and communication systems and the non-railway safety systems with an estimated gross budget of a further €53.6 million. The region will be responsible, directly or indirectly through the Basque rail network ETS, for the construction of the track for the new HSR access line to Bilbao Abando station.
