Adif presents plan of Montcada i Reixac project

Spanish railway infrastructure manager Adif has presented the plans for the railway integration project in Montcada i Reixac to the city of Barcelona and the public. With an investment volume of €540.4 million, the integration of the railway line into Barcelona's city centre is one of the largest projects in the Transformem Rodalies plan. The plan is to build a 4 km tunnel for the tracks of the R2 suburban rail line, which will be extended by a third track. The schedule envisages four sections: the Vallbona – Can Sant Joan tunnel, city centre, Font Freda, and Can Coll. Once the exploratory work has been completed, construction of the section between the dividing walls of the future tunnel in the middle section and the elevation of the third track in the station will begin in the second half of 2024. In 2025, construction work will continue on the dividing walls in the central and Font Freda sectors, as well as the excavation work, and the first phase of the rerouteing of the conventional line will be carried out while the railway line and the C-33 highway are in operation.
