Spanish rail infrastructure manager Adif has invited bids to develop a project for the electrification of the 15 km Humanes (Madrid) – Illescas (Toledo) line. The phase precedes the construction tender for electrification components and equipment such as substations, masts, cables, and overhead line. The upgrade is expected to improve capacity and sustainability in short- and medium-haul services from Madrid to Extremadura, and to enable an expansion of services on the C5 commuter rail line between Madrid and Illescas. Adif is also working on the project to electrify the Illescas – Talayuela conventional line and on the development of the Madrid – Extremadura high-speed rail (HSR) line.
