Adif AV has put out to tender the construction of a track construction base on the new Murcia – Almería high-speed rail (HSR) line for €31.3 million. According to the Spanish HSR infrastructure manager, this marks the start of the track-laying phase in the construction of the HSR line. From the base in Librilla, the tracks will initially be installed on the 60 km Murcia – Lorca section. The base is to be set up while the track assembly projects are being developed. The facility will have tracks and rooms for the reception and storage of track components such as ballast, rails, and sleepers, as well as a warehouse and office building, and will later serve as a maintenance base for the HSR line and the Murcia – Monforte del Cid link. Adif AV is investing a total of €3.5 billion in the expansion and electrification of the Murcia – Almeria HSR line as a strategic section of the Mediterranean corridor.
