Spanish high-speed rail (HSR) infrastructure manager Adif AV has invited bids for the construction of a second track on a 32 km section of the Madrid – Galicia HSR line. The upgrade of the currently single-track section between Pedralba and Vilavella, which links the provinces of Zamora and Ourense, is intended to increase line capacity. Track, electrification, safety and communications equipment as well as other systems will be installed on existing subgrade, which is already laid along the entire line, except for a section of about 1 km where the Aciberos tunnel (445 m) as well as the Leira (100 m) and Pedro (370 m) viaducts will be built. The line started operations in December 2021.
