Adif AV starts upgrade of stations on Madrid – Extremadura HSR line

The Spanish high-speed rail (HSR) infrastructure manager Adif AV has announced the final phase of modernisation works on the tracks, platforms, and complementary elements of the stations of Mérida, Aljucén, and Cáceres on the Madrid – Extremadura HSR line. The work, with an investment volume of €38.8 million, includes the replacement of rails, ballast, sleepers, and points, as well as the extension of the platforms. To improve the operational capability and interoperability of the systems, work will be realised on the overhead line and on the control and safety technology in the stations. The work will be realised in several phases between January and June 2024 during ongoing operations with changes to train departure and arrival times.
