The Norwegian infrastructure manager Bane NOR has stated in its annual InfraStatus 2022 report that 21% of the Norwegian rail network needs renewal. Although this is a slight improvement on 2021, the need for maintenance on old single-track sections has increased. The punctuality of passenger trains on the national network was 87.8%, which is below the target of 90%. The replacement value of the entire Norwegian rail network was estimated at €44.7 billion (NOK 525 billion).
