2025-2036 National Transport Plan sets four priorities for future of rail

The Norwegian railway directorate Jernbanedirektoratet and infrastructure manager Bane NOR have proposed four main priorities for future rail development as part of the 2025-2036 National Transport Plan. The updated priorities, which were submitted to the government on 3rd October 2023, include strengthening services in major cities, increasing capacity for freight transport on longer lines, completing ongoing development projects, as well as increasing maintenance and renewal of existing infrastructure. The transport plan is to be presented in spring 2024, and will address current challenges such as climate targets, nature conservation and emergency preparedness. Regional meetings with district councils, large cities, the Sami Parliament and the business community are planned for autumn 2023 to discuss suggestions and priorities for the future development of the transport system.
