The Italian Wegh Group has successfully completed a second railway sleeper production plant in Egypt for Smart Roads, a road and airport construction company. The plant will produce concrete sleepers using technology and equipment provided by the Wegh Group. It marks Wegh's second production site in Egypt after the plant built for the Engineering Institution for Civil Work (EICW). Another plant is planned for The General Nile Company for Roads and Bridges (GNCRB) to meet the demand for concrete sleepers for Egypt's high-speed railway (HSR), which has a total length of over 2000 km. Smart Roads has selected Wegh Group as the technology supplier for a turnkey solution that includes the design of the concrete sleepers, the supply of the carousel system for the production of the sleepers and a training programme for the personnel.
