Tenders approved for TKC and Mmamabula – Lephalale line

In September 2023, the governments of Botswana and Namibia approved a tender for the construction of the Trans Kalahari Corridor (TKC) line, which is scheduled to start in January 2025. The 1,500 km line is expected to have a capacity of up to 56 million t per year and will mainly serve to transport coal and copper. In parallel, the Mmamabula – Lephalale railway project is being advanced to provide a shorter outbound line from Botswana. The construction costs for this project are estimated at €137 million (BWP 2 billion) and are to be financed through a public-private partnership model.
