On 26th October 2023, the Southern African Railways Association (SARA) and the UK trade association Rail Forum signed a letter of intent for long-term cooperation in the field of railway infrastructure development. In addition to SARA and the Rail Forum, the collaboration involves the UK Department for Business & Trade, UK Export Finance, and the UK Rail Research & Innovation Network, which together aim to support the development of Southern Africa and the UK Midlands region into international rail hubs and provide access to extensive UK supply chain expertise. SARA members include Beitbridge Bulawayo Railway, Botswana Railways (BR) and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).
