Kenya has received a €127.5 million (US$138.7 million) loan from France for the modernisation of Nairobi's suburban rail network. The suburban rail network comprises five metre-gauge lines, with work on the new 12.5 km line in western Nairobi between Riruta and Ngong starting in December 2023. Once completed, the Nairobi suburban rail network will cover a total of 165 km.
