Taizhou – Chengnan suburban rail line opened

On 28th December 2022, a 52.4 km suburban rail line opened for passenger services between Chengnan and the east coast city of Taizhou in the province of Zhejiang. The S1 line with speeds of 140 km/h comprises tunnels with a total length of 17.5 km, with the remaining sections running elevated. Of a total of 15 stations, seven are underground. The line has been built and is being operated by the Taizhou Rail Transit Construction and Development Co., and is the first suburban rail line in China to be realised through a public-private partnership (PPP). It was approved by the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in December 2014, and construction works started in November 2016. Services are being operated by a fleet of 31 four-car electric multiple units (EMU) of the Type D from Chinese manufacturer CRRC. The east-west line S2 is currently under construction for opening in 2025. The 25.8 km line connects Beiyang in the west with Wurenji Xiaozhen in the east.
