Draft plan announced for new Tokyo metro line

The Tokyo metropolitan government has announced a draft plan to build a new metro line connecting the city centre with waterfront areas of Tokyo. The planned 6.1 km line will have seven stations and will run from Tokyo Station to Tokyo Big Sight, also known as the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre. The new metro line is estimated to be completed by 2040, with the cost of the project ranging between EUR 2.9 billion and EUR 3.6 billion (JPY 420 to 510 billion). Meanwhile, communication-based train control (CBTC) is planned to be introduced on the complete Marunouchi Line between Yotsuya and Ogikubo. Tests began in November and commercial operations are planned for 2024.
