CDRC proposes building Dhaka – Chattogram HSR line

The China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC) has proposed to build the tracks and operate a high-speed rail (HSR) line on the Dhaka – Chattogram corridor with an investment of over €10.4 billion ($11 billion). Under these plans, the company has also proposed forming a joint venture (JV) with the governments of Bangladesh and China. CDRC has made this proposal to the Bangladeshi Ministry of Railways, which is now discussing with Bangladeshi state railway BR. According to the proposal, the Chinese government would have the majority stake of 80%. The 224.6 km HSR line is to reduce journey times between the two cities from currently more than six hours to just under an hour. Construction works would be completed within 54 months.
