4,100 km of lines opened in 2022

In China, a total of 4,100 km of new railway lines were opened in 2022, including 2,082 km of high-speed rail (HSR) lines. With that, the Chinese railway network reached a length of 155,000 km, of which 42,000 km are HSR lines. During 2022, Chinese state railway CR invested a total of EUR97.5 billion (CNY710 billion) in fixed assets. In addition, over 3,000 km of new lines are expected to start service in 2023, of which 2,500 km will be HSR lines. CR is expecting 2.7 billion passenger journeys to be made in 2023, which would be an increase of 67.6% on the 1.61 billion recorded in 2022. For 2023, CR is forecasting a total transport revenue of €112 billion for 2023, an increase of 17.8% compared to 2022. Passenger transport revenues are expected to increase by 54.6% to €46 billion.
