On 21st January 2023, the city of São Vicente, located in the state of São Paulo, announced it would be connected to the state capital’s light rail transit (LRT) network. The announcement was made by the Metropolitan Company of Urban Transportation (EMTU) in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo, which officially launched the bidding to realise the works of the third phase of the LRT network in the region. According to São Vicente's announcement, the services foresee the construction of three new LRT stations in Ponte Nova, Quarentenário and Rio Branco, in addition to the Samaritá Terminal at the end, which will also include a shunting yard.
