Modernisation of Malha Oeste line to be delayed to 2027

The planned modernisation of the 1,625 km Malha Oeste railway line connecting Corumbá in the state of Mato Grosso to Mairinque in São Paulo is to be delayed to 2027. The investments worth €3.4 billion (BRL 18.9 billion) to be provided up to 2083 will most likely not be received in the next four years. The claims will now be analysed by the Brazilian land transport authority ANTT, which will then define the final project for re-bidding. This will be forwarded to the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) in October 2023 for an opinion, with the notice expected to be published in January 2024. The auction is scheduled to take place in April 2024, and the signing of the contract in July 2024.
